For many homes, the starting point is usually the main areas someone could use to approach the property:

A smaller number of correctly positioned cameras can often be more useful than simply installing cameras everywhere.

2K vs 4K CCTV Cameras

4K provides more resolution than 2K, but resolution alone doesn’t determine image quality.

You should also consider:

Sensor performance
Low-light performance
Lens and field of view
Camera position
Available lighting
Identification distance

Higher-resolution cameras can also consume additional storage.

We’d rather use the right camera in the right location than choose equipment purely because “4K” looks better on the box.

Can CCTV Work Without Internet?

With many locally recorded IP CCTV systems, yes.

Cameras can record to an NVR (Network Video Recorder) over the local network without sending every recording to the cloud.

Your internet connection is generally required for functions such as remote viewing and notifications.

If the internet goes down, a correctly configured local system may continue recording even though remote access is temporarily unavailable.

How Long Does CCTV Footage Last?

That depends on the system.

Recording retention is affected by:

Number of cameras
Resolution
Frame rate
Compression
Continuous or event recording
Hard-drive capacity

When storage becomes full, CCTV systems are commonly configured to overwrite the oldest recordings automatically.

If you need a particular retention period, storage should be calculated around that requirement.

There isn’t one fixed price because properties vary considerably.
